My kids have always gotten up early. Their usual wake-up time is around 6:00 am, but they have gotten up as early as 5:00. The challenge for me is calculating how late I can sleep and still get up before they do. I try to get breakfast started, but sometimes they beat me to the punch, and that does not set well if they are hungry. Like this morning, John had a hard time waiting for the biscuits in the oven. He pitched an out and out fit! Not a nice way to start the day--for me or him.
A lot of times Ellen and I just have cereal for breakfast. I fix oatmeal for John. I know they get tired of the same thing, so I also fix biscuits or croissants a couple of times a week. None of this is homemade--canned and frozen foods are my friends. On Saturdays we traditionally have pancakes. I also try to sneak in some bananas.
